Love is here during night

Friday night, I played a lot of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (hereinafter to be referred to as BF:BC2), which was a good thing. Kate had the day off and spent time at her parents' place before helping Allie with her wedding invitations. I was asleep before she got home.

Saturday, not much to report. It was pretty cold and I had a nine-hour shift at Penn Cycle. We were not super-busy, but we had bursts of activity. Fixed some things, built two bikes (the third had to be sent back on warranty due to a fork crown that was fractured before we touched it). Not much to report there, either. Before the shift, I cleaned up and organized the bike room, which sorely needed it.

Sunday, we had a shorter shift at the framebuilding apprenticeship, as I had to leave by 4 p.m. However, we got a ton of stuff done. Cold-set and tuned the fork for the commuter frame. That was for starters. We also took the twist out of the head tube and aligned the down tube on the 29'er frame. Started mitering the mounting points for the canti posts, and TIG welded the upright onto my welding stand that we started a couple months back and never finished. Starting to figure out that TIG thing a — would be easier with a water-cooled system as the gun gets incredibly hot (even through heavy gloves).

After framebuilding, I drove home, and Kate and I hurried our asses over to Williams Arena. We had tickets to the women's NCAA basketball and watched Nebraska blow out Northern Iowa by 40 points.

The stadium food really fucked with my stomach, so I do much afterward. We watched TV and I went to bed early.

1.Coastguards in Falmouth, Cornwall, picked up a distress signal call from a ship named the MV Titanic in the Caribbean. Three people were on the ship which was taking on water and suffering from electrical failure.

2. Chilli grower Woody Woods, from Grantham, Lincolnshire, is laying claim to the world's hottest variety of pepper. Tests carried out by Warwick University rate the Infinity chilli at 1,067,286 on the Scoville Scale, which is used to measure the heat of peppers – hotter than the Bhut Jolokia variety which is used for crowd control by the Indian Army.

The mayor of a town in Jordan says a local newspaper's April Fool's Day report chronicling a late-night visit by three-metre-tall aliens in flying saucers sparked public panic and almost led to the town's emergency evacuation.

The Al Ghad newspaper published a front-page article on April 1 about a UFO landing near the desert town of Jafr, about 300 kilometres from the capital, Amman. The fake report said the UFOs lit up the whole town, interrupted communications and sent fearful residents streaming into the streets.

Jafr's mayor, Mohammed Mleihan, got caught up in the prank and said he sent security authorities in search of the aliens.

“Students didn't go to school, their parents were frightened and I almost evacuated the town's 13,000 residents,” Mleihan said. “People were scared that aliens would attack them.”

A Jordanian security official said an emergency plan was almost enacted in Jafr.

Mleihan said he might sue the daily for its “big lie” but added the paper had called to apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Al Ghad's managing editor, Moussa Barhoumeh, said the report had been “blown out of proportion”.

“We meant to entertain, not scare people,” he said.

Jordan's newspapers rarely publish April Fool's jokes.
